Slovak Stonehenge in Holic

The easiest place of menhirs in Europe is Holic in Slovakia. Holic's sanctuary and stone cult objects is an excellent reason for a trip to Slovakia.

The menhirs were found on a hill in 1988 when a settlement was built, where a circular sanctuary (rondel) was created in the past and consists of two ditches. Rondels are in Central Europe dated to 5500-6500 years ago. The early rondel in Holic was 60 meters long and formed 25 stones. The stones were centred in two circles, alternating with a low and wide "female" stone with high and slim "male" stones. In the centre he was the main idol. The placement of cult stones has astronomical and, above all, magical significance. The main idol is a stone whose total height is 6.8 m. The stone is decorated with scrawled symbols such as various instruments - chakra, hammer or axe, under it a hook or a hook. The wheel represents the deity.

The menhirs have been exhibited since 1996 in the courtyard of the Craft House - the Holiness Faience building and have a symbolic sunshine. The public is accessible and you can identify animal, tool, human characters. Holic is the ideal place for a trip on the Bratislava - Trnava - Brno or Vienna route.
