Program of this trip:
Day 1: arrival to Slovakia, accommodation, informal reception.
Day 2: We will visit the castle in Trencin, which is among the most
interesting attractions that embellish the River Vah valley. The castle towers above the town
and the landscape. Its history is dated as far as the Roman Empire, the proof of which is an
inscription on the rock that announces the victory of the second Roman legion over the Germans in
179 A.D. at Lougario (Latin name of Trencin).
Day 3:
We will visit the ruins of Cachtice Castle. A legend that is among the most famous and mysterious
ones in Slovakia says that Alzbeta Bathory, who lived in the Castle, was very cruel to her servants,
and for her deeds, she was imprisoned lifelong. The castle was built in the 13th century and offers
a beautiful view of the surroundings to its visitors.
Day 4: The castle in Smolenice was built during the time of rich
constructional activities of the Palffy family in 1864. Jozef Palffy, the last owner of the castle,
decided to erect a chateau on the ruins of the old castle. Inspired by the study of the European
historical architecture, the new castle is built in romantic style. Then, we will visit the manor
house in Dolna Krupa. It is one of the most important monuments of the classicist architecture in Slovakia.
Regarding some of its history, Ludwig van Beethoven lived in this house some time. We will also go to
see the most beautiful cave of West Slovakia, the Drina Cave (Cave of Drudgery), which is located near
the Smolenice Castle.
Day 5: We will go to see the ruins of Beckov Castle that was built in the
13th century. It was owned by Matus Cak, the Master of Vah and Tatras. The Castle is located on the top
of a large rock formation that is used for rock climbing as well. The acoustics of the ruins is quite
unique, therefore, various musical events are organized here.
Day 6: We will visit Piestany, the well-known spa with many historical
monuments that date back to the 11th century, such as the gothic church, Johanits’ monastery and the
classicist church. There are many statues and sculptures located in the town center. Near the town,
there is an interesting archaeological site – Kostolec.
Day 7: Farewell and departure from Slovakia.
