Bratislava & Little Carpathians Walking Tour - Self-guided

Itinerary

Have you already seen all important sights and places in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, and still have a couple of free days to spend there perhaps for outdoor walking holiday? If you are thinking of leaving the city for a few days, you can go on easy self-guided hiking trip and spend some time in Bratislava surroundings and Little Carpathians hills in the nature.
This trip is not a typical mountain hiking tour with lots of astonishing views, but it offers adventure and relax out of the city but still in close proximity.

1. Day 1 Arrival in Bratislava, Slovakia.

   - Arrival in Bratislava
   - Accommodation in 4* hotel
   - Meeting with our representative who will provide all necesary information and give you maps

2. Day 2 Hike from hotel to Slavin and Devin.

   - Breakfast
   - Hiking route: hotel - Slavin - Devin
   - Accomodation in a hotel in Devin
   
   *You can leave unnecessary luggage in the hotel in Bratislava, you will spend last night there as well.
   
   Bratislava - Devin (5 hrs)
   You start this tour with a little city walk from hotel to Slavin memorial monument. You can enjoy nice view of the city from there. Following red mark you will walk through the Old town and leaving the city continuosly. Before you reach Devin you will hike a little in nature around the capital city.
   
   Route: Hotel - Slavin - Devinska kobyla - Devin castle

3. Day 3 Devin castle visit, hiking to Devinska Nova Ves. Bus to Stupava town.

   - Local bus to Stupava
   - Accommodation in a hotel
   
   Devin castle - Devinska Nova Ves (2 hrs)
   You start the day with a sightseeing of Devin castle ruins. Today's hiking is an easy and nice walk from Devin to Devinska Nova Ves, formerly an independent village and nowadays a borough of Bratislava. After hiking you will take a bus and train to Stupava town where you will spend the night.
   
   Route: Devin - Sandberg - Devinska Nova Ves
   
   Devin castle ruins tower over the confluence of the rivers Danube and Morava.The fortress, used as a watchtower by the Slavonic count Rastislav Dovina, was mentioned in the manuscripts as early as the 9th century AD. After the fall of the Great Moravian Empire of the ancient Slavs, the Devin fortress became an important strategic fortification of the Hungarian Kingdom. As early as in the 13th century, a smaller building with a tower (foundation of a later castle) was situated at the top of rocky hill. In 1809, advancing Napoleon troops destroyed the fortress. Since 1965 an archaeological research has been carried out in the castle area. The castle ruins have been partially reconstructed under auspices of the Municipal Museum in Bratislava.

4. Day 4 Hike from Stupava to Svaty Jur.

   - Hiking route: Stupava - Svaty Jur
   - Accommodation in a guest house in Svaty Jur
   
   Stupava - Svaty Jur (5 - 6 hrs)
   This whole day, you can enjoy hiking in beautiful nature of the Little Carpathians. You will follow yellow marked trail from Stupava to Pajstun castle ruins. From there, you will continue via red marked trail to Kosarisko hill and then blue mark to Svaty Jur town. Svaty Jur is a small historical town known mainly for its winemaking.
   
   Route: Stupava - Pajstun - Kosarisko - Svaty Jur

5. Day 5 Hike from Svaty Jur to Raca. Tram to the hotel.

   - Breakfast
   - Hiking route: Svaty Jur - Raca, Bratislava
   - Accommodation in 4* hotel
   
   Svaty Jur - Raca (5 hrs)
   For the last hiking day you will visit Biely Kamen castle ruins located above Nestich, part of Svaty Jur. Hiking trail leads to Biely Kriz crossroads where you continue via yellow marked trail and then blue one to Raca, a borrough of Bratislava. In Raca take a tram to the hotel.
   
   Route: Svaty Jur - Biely kamen castle - Panova luka - Mala Bana peak - Raca, Bratislava
