From Hut to Hut Trekking Self-guided Tour in the High Tatras Mountains, Slovakia Travel, Location The High Tatra National Park is the largest and most important Natural Reserve in Slovakia, with its challenging hikes and breathtaking views; it rivals any mountain range in the world. Though compact, the peaks and landscapes are monumental - with 35 valleys, over 90 lakes and crashing waterfalls into impressive gorges.

High Tatras are the only alpine mountains in the Eastern Europe and one of the smallest high mountain ranges in the world.

This tour is for those who likes nights in the mountains and want to spend as much time in the High Tatras as possible. You will walk up by beautiful valleys, saddles, mountains meadows. Panorama of the mountains offers amazing views of peaks, lakes, waterfalls with remarkable colors during sunrises and sunsets.

Day 2:

Self-guided High Tatras Tour - Velke Biele Pleso Biela voda - Zelene pleso - (4-5 hrs)
You will start in the western part of the High Tatras Mountains. In the morning short public transport by bus to the begining of the route. Thanks to the chalet at the Green Lake and impressive panorama and valleys in the surroundings, this valley is one the most interesting in the High Tatras. You will be amazed by the 900 m high northern face of the Maly Kezmarsky peak, Hawk Tower and other peaks in the valley.

You can choose from several routes:
1. shortest trail - Bielej vody valley - 3 hours, easy
2. average trail - Bielej vody valley, around Biele pleso lake - 5 hours, easy
3. longest trail - Tatranska kotlina - Plesnivec Hut - Biele pleso - Zelene pleso Hut - 7 hours, moderate

Optional route: Green lake valley hut - Jahnaci peak and back - 4 hours, hard

Day 3:

Self-guided High Tatras Tour - Zelene Pleso Valley Zelene pleso - Zamka hut - (6-7 hrs)
From the Zelene Pleso hut you will climb up the top of Velka Svistovka. From there easy walk to Skalnate pleso and then Zamkovskeho Hut.

Route: Zelene Pleso Hut - (20 meters of chains!)Velka Svistovka - Skalnate pleso - Zamkovskeho Hut

Optional route: Hrebienok - Zbojnicka hut and back - 4 hours, moderate

Day 4:

Self-guided High Tatras Tour - Popradske Plesu Hut Zamka - Popradske pleso - (8 hrs)
You will visit three valleys in one day. Velicka valley situated below the eastern slopes of the Gerlachovsky stit (GerlachovskĆ½ Peak) - which is the highest peak in the High Tatras. Batizovska valley is situated in the central part of the High Tatras. You will enjoy magnificent view of Batizovsky, Kacaci, Popradsky ladovy and Gerlachovsky peak. Mengusovska valley from the top of Ostrva peak - the best for the last - view of Patria, Basty, Satan, Koprovsky, Vysoka, Draci peaks enchant everyone. Popradske pleso Hut is easilly accessed down by switchbacks.

Route: Zamka - Velicka valley - Batizovska valley - Ostrva - Popradske pleso hut

Day 5:

Self-guided High Tatras Tour - Panorama of the High Tatras Popradske pleso - Rysy and back - (6-7 hrs)
You will hike up to Chata pod Rysmi, the highest altitude mountain chalet in the range, and then to Rysy, the most visited peak in the High Tatras, located on the border with Poland. The ridge in this area is frequently enveloped in mist.

Route: Popradske pleso hut - Zabie lakes - (chains!)Pod Rysmi Hut - Rysy and back
Optional route available: Popradske pleso hut - Velke Hincovo lake - Koprovsky peak - and back
- transfer by train to Poprad
