Itinerary

The National Park of Mala Fatra is situated in the westernmost Slovak high mountains Mala Fatra. Gorges, rock peaks and an attractive ridge tour are among its attractions.

The Krivanska part of the Mala Fatra Mts. was designated the Protected Landscape Area in 1967 for unusual abundance of its natural assets and the plant and animal species it contains. It was re-classified in 1988 to National Park Mala Fatra. It spreads on an area of 226 square kilometres. The area of its protective zone is 233 square kilometres.

The main subject of protection is the territory with varied geological history and dissected relief forms, rare and precious biocenoses, flora and fauna, and the exceptional value of forest and mountain compounds with precious dwarf pinewoods, rapacious animals such as the wolf, lynx or bear. The administration of the National Park seats in Varin.

The waterfall Sutovsky vodopad, Horne Diery and Dolne Diery and the tops like Maly Rozsutec, Velky Rozsutec or Velky Fatransky Krivan are the popular destinations of tourist.

During this tour you will walk through the whole national park to see its most wonderful places in general. This tour is suitable for those who witl visit the park for the very first time and want to spend the whole week by exploring its unique fauna and flora. In addition you will visit cultural monuments like castles and traditional Slovak village with wooden houses.

  2. Day 2 Hike from Bystricka to Martinske hole.

    Bystricka – Martinske Hole - (4 hrs)
    You will start in west part of Mala Fatra Mountains - Lucanska Fatra from Bystricka village. Bystricka lies in the natural environment of Turcianska kotlina, on the west side Lucanska Fatra and Martinske hole. Czechoslovak President Tomas Masaryk Garique (1850-1937) with remarkable love to this area he chose with the whole family this place as his summer residence.

  3. Day 3 Hike from Martinske hole to Strecno village.

    Martinske Hole - Strecno - (4-5 hrs)
    Todays walk will take you through the Lucianska Mala Fatra mountains. You will walk mainly on the main ridge of the monuntains and in the wood forests. Great views of the main ridge of Krivanska Mala Fatra and its highest peak Velky Fatransky Krivan. The walk ends in Strecno.

  4. Day 4 Hike from Strecno village to Strecno castle. Transfer to Techova village.

    Strecno
    In the morning visit of the Strecno castle, set on a spectacular limestone cliff that plunges into the Vah river. It was built in the 14th century to collect tolls and serve as a watchtower.
    Afternoon visit of the Old castle on the opposite side of the river Vah and car transfer to Terchova village.

  5. Day 5 Hike from Techova to Velky Rozsutec peak.

    Terchova - Velky Rozsutec - Stefanova
    Terchova has the best location for the beginning of many walking trails to Mala Fatra Mountains. You can enjoy gorges of Dolne Diery and Horne Diery and Mala Fatra ridge with monumental top of Velky Rozsutec peak during one day tour.

    Route: Terchova - Dolne Diery - Velky Rozsutec - Vratna – Stefanova

  6. Day 6 Hike from Techova to Velky Fatransky Krivan peak.

    Terchova - Velky Fatransky Krivan and back
    For those who loves spectacular views is the best choice to climb on the top of the Velky Krivan peak - the highest peak of Mala Fatra Mountains. You will get by cable car to Snilovske saddle, the starting point of the hike and from there easy hike to Velky Krivan peak.

    Route: Terchova - Vratna - Snilovske saddle - Velky Krivan and back

  7. Day 7 Transfer to Zilina. Farewell.
