Large Fatra the Contrast of Green Berrens and Rocky Cliffs

Large Fatra the Contrast of Green Berrens and Rocky Cliffs, Slovakia Travel, Location The Large Fatra is a protected region spreading over 151 525 acres. It is characterized by a multitude of morphological and relief formations. Dolomites create walls and cliffs. There is here, also, a beautiful region with caves. The local fauna is represented by the Carpathian stag, wild boar, the brown bear and the keen eyed mountain lion. The flora is, also, represented in its rare forms. On the territory of Large Fatra can be found a multitude of reservations, which protect extraordinary formations and plants. The mountain range of Large Fatra is an ideal place for the lovers of tourism and natural beauty.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival to Slovakia, accommodation, informal reception.

Day 2:

We will hike up Krizna mountain (altitude 1574 m), a peak characteristic of the area, covered with mountain meadows that put on a display of all imaginable colours from spring to fall. The top offers beautiful panoramic views.

Day 3:

We will climb the peak in the Liptov section of the mountain range called Rakytov (altitude 1567 m). It has a pyramidal shape and at the top is the Skalna Brana (Rock Gate) cliff.

Day 4:

We will visit Spania Dolina (altitude 728 m), a historical mining village situated high in the mountains. Folk architecture in the village is well preserved: miner’s homes, technical monuments and remnants of a historical aqueduct, and a Romanesque church.

Day 5:

A tour of the center of central Slovakia, the city of Banska Bystrica. It is a historical and cultural centre rich in historical and cultural monuments.

Day 6:

We will climb Salatin peak (altitude 1630 m), which forms a border between the Velka Fatra range and the Low Tatras range.

Day 7:

We will visit the settlement of Vlkolinec, which is designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site. More than 40 homes are preserved in their original locations, creating an open-air museum of high-mountain village life.

Day 8:

We will ascend the unique, meadow-covered peak Ploska (altitude 1532 m), which is distinguished by its rare plant communities.

Day 9:

Farewell and departure from Slovakia.
