The Basin of the River Vah - The Amber Road

The Basin of the River Vah - The Amber Road, Slovakia Travel, Location This trip is suitable for everyone, who likes the pleasant moments in a virgin nature. It is, also, suitable for families with children. The Basin of the River Vah- the surroundings of Vah, are woven through by steep rock walls, which create unusual formations. Human fantasy ascribed various names to them and together they create entire rock cities. Here, there are silent valleys where white, rock towers contrast with fresh, blooming meadows. We shall, also, see a piece of history- a folk exhibition village with wonderful ruins of a castle. We shall pass through a set of tight formations and waterfalls, which we shall climb by ladders.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival to Slovakia, accommodation, informal reception.

Day 2:

We will walk through the most popular reaches of the Vratna valley: Dolne Diery, Horne Diery, and Tiesnavy; splendid landscapes of a ”rock city”, narrow gorges, miniature canyons, waterfalls and spires carved into the rock by the force of a mountain stream.

Day 3:

We will climb Velky Rozsutec (altitude 1611 m), a jagged peak in the Mala Fatra mountains famous for its forked top with a number of limestone spires.

Day 4:

We will visit the historic village of Terchova, the birthplace of the most legendary Slovak folk hero Juro Janosik who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. We will visit his birthplace and his ”memorial room”.

Day 5:

We will visit Sulovske Skaly (Sulovske cliffs), where rock formations again create a ”rock city”. The area is a popular climbing ground for both Slovak and foreign rock climbers. In times long ago, a medieval castle towered at the highest position on the cliffs. The ruins of the castle have survived to the present day.

Day 6:

Maninska Tiesnava (Maninska Narrow) is a strictly protected nature reserve with a large number of rock formations. Water carved a canyon there with walls as high as 800 meters. This area is also popular with rock climbers.

Day 7:

We will visit the ruins of Lietavsky Hrad (Lietava Castle; altitude 630 m); a gothic castle from the 13th century. The castle is perched on the top of a limestone cliff, at the highest point in a beautiful landscape setting. Its magnificence draws one’s interest even from a great distance.

Day 8:

We will take a trip to Rokos, the most beautiful peak in Strazovske Vrchy (Strazov Mountains).

Day 9:

Farewell and departure from Slovakia.
