The majority of monuments of Banska Stiavnica concentrate in the area spreading between the Trinity and Town Hall squares. The Gothic church of St Catherine from the end of the 15th century and the town hall with its slender clock tower detach these squares.
It is the most important Baroque calvary in Slovakia and the whole former Kingdom of Hungary, probably even in Europe. This calvary is a complex of 3 churches and 22 chapels with precious painting decorations and wooden painted reliefs.
The tajchs served the needs of mines in the past. The purpose was to gather rainwater flowing down the mountain slopes and to conduct it into reservoirs. The water in lakes supplied mines and metallurgical plants where it drove various machines. Today, tajchs offer a fabulous summer holiday to fans of camping and outdoor swimming.
The mint of Kremnica once produced the ducats, which were highly praised for their quality and beauty and joined the most favorite coins in Europe. Commemorative coins, medals, and coins from different countries are still minted in Kremnica today.
The copper mining town acquired its present look in the Late Middle Ages. Most of the historical monuments concentrate near SNP Square.
Wooden church in Hronsek is a precious historical monument, together with a wooden belfry from 1726. The oak pillars have carved header Ionian ornaments. It has a shingle roof with three crosses and a rooster, as a Christian symbol of vigilance.
