Itinerary

The Tatra National Park is the largest and most important natural reserve in Slovakia. With its challenging hikes and breathtaking views, it rivals any mountain range in the world. The peaks and landscapes are monumental - 35 valleys, over 90 mountain lakes, and imposing waterfalls crashing into gorges.
The trip focuses on the central part of the High Tatras in Hrebienok tourist resort, the best starting point for mountain walks. The area offers astonishing views around the mountains, and you will enjoy nights under the Slavkovsky peak.

The tour can be extended to 8 and more days by including visiting other impressive places.

  1. Day 1 Arrival in Stary Smokovec, Slovakia.

  2. Day 2 Day hike from Hrebienok to Zbojnicka hut and back.

    - Hiking route: Hrebienok - Zbojnicka hut - Hrebienok
    - Funicular to Stary Smokovec

    Velka Studena Dolina (6 - 7 hrs)
    You will visit the Zbojnicka Chata (Robber's hut; 1,960 m EASL) in Great Cold Valley (Velka Studena Dolina), surrounded by rocky peaks. Zbojnicka hut was reconstructed in 2000, offering its services during all seasons. Supplies are still carried up to the hut by mountain carriers.

  3. Day 3 Day hike from Hrebienok to Tery's hut and back.

    - Funicular to Stary Smokovec

    Small Cold Valley (6 - 7 hrs)
    Trek to Tery's hut (2,015 m EASL), located in Small Cold Valley (Mala Studena Dolina) above five Spis Mountain Lakes surrounded by rocky peaks. Small Cold Valley is well-known for its rich mining and poaching history.

  4. Day 4 Hiking or Belianska cave visit.

    - Breakfast
    - Bus transfer or hiking to Tatranska Kotlina
    - Option 1: visit to Belianska cave
    - Option 2: hiking route Tatranska Kotlina - Plesnivec hut - Zelene pleso hut - Biela Voda bus
    - Return to Stary Smokovec

    Belianska cave
    Belianska Cave hides in the territory of the Tatra National Park. The cave is 1,752 m long, and some of its parts have been accessible since the 18th century. There are eight species of bats living in the cave. The cave circuit takes 70 minutes.

    Biela Voda - Zelene pleso hut (6 hrs)
    Zelene pleso hut lies in the valley of Zelene Pleso (Green Lake Valley) above Green lake with a unique green color. The magnificent High Tatras peaks surround the lake with the hut, cocreating the scenery.

    Route: Tatranska Kotlina - Biele pleso - chata pri Zelenom plese - Salviovy pramen - Biela Voda bus stop

  5. Day 5 Day hike from Hrebienok to Slavkovsky peak.

    - Funicular to Stary Smokovec

    Slavkovsky peak (7 hrs)
    Slavkovsky peak (2,452 m EASL) is popular among tourists because of its large top with a wonderful view all around. It is situated at the end of south-eastern fork which extends from Vychodna Vysoka (Eastern High) peak. Northern slope of the Slavkovsky Peak is characteristic with a large number of very steep ravines falling to Great Cold Valley (Velka Studena Dolina).

  6. Day 6 Day hike from Hrebienok to Velicke Lake.

    - Hiking route: Hrebienok - Velicke Lake (Sliezsky Dom mountain hotel) - Hrebienok
    - Funicular to Stary Smokovec

    Velicka Valley (5 hrs)
    Velicke Lake is in Velicka Valley, where Sliezsky Dom mountain hotel (Silesian House; 1,670 m EASL) lies. The trip offers a striking view of just how high the Tatras are. In viewing the Tatra villages below, hikers sometimes find themselves looking just past their boot-tops.
