Spa History

Novy Smokovec was established in 1875 in the middle of a dense spruce forest in the High Tatras.
From the beginning, Novy Smokovec was formed as a settlement with a healing mission.

In 1874, began the digging of the foundations of the first building.
After World War II, the sanatorium became a state spa.

In 1995, the Novy Smokovec Spa reconstructed both hotels, built a swimming pool, and modernized medical procedures.

Natural Healing Resources

The essential treatment method is climatotherapy and active movement of patients in the fresh air.

The healing elements of the Tatra climate are characterized by extraordinary air purity, average humidity; and saturation of the air with ozone and fragrant essential oils. The benefit of the Spa is its location above the layer of dust and smoke zone, which gives high air purity almost free of bacteria and allergens.

Novy Smokovec Spa treats non-tuberculous respiratory diseases, diseases of the metabolism and endocrine glands, mental illnesses, and occupational diseases.
