High Tatras - Tourism Throughout the Whole Year, for Everyone
This outing is designated for everyone, who wants to visit the Tatras in any season.
All the following tours are safe throughout the year.
In the spring and fall the High Tatras are extraordinarily magical: fall colors,
snow in the top of the trees and the peaks of the mountains, morning mists and
cuddly chalets. These outings are, especially, suitable for winter-time.
Program of this trip:
Day 1: arrival to Slovakia, accommodation, informal reception.
Day 2: We will visit the mountain town of Strbske Pleso
(Strbske Lake; altitude 1355m) which boasts the most famous glacial mountain
lake in the High Tatras and a winter recreation area where international
competitive sporting events are held every year. We will hike to Popradske
Pleso (Popradske Lake), a 61 ha glacial morrain lake (altitude 1,494m)
where a mountain chalet Chata Pri Popradskom Plese (Chalet By Popradske Lake) is located.
We will also visit a symbolic cemetery for victims of accidents in the High Tatras.
Day 3: We will visit the mountain settlement of
Skalnate Pleso (Rocky Lake; altitude 1751m) which, nestled
among the peaks, is the High Tatras settlement highest in altitude.
A Mountain Rescue Center and an observatory of the Institute of Astronomy of the
Slovak Academy of Sciences are located here.
Day 4: We will visit the mountain chalet
Chata Pri Zelenom Plese (Chalet By Green Lake; altitude 1554m) in the valley of
Zelene Pleso (Green Lake). The chalet is situated above the lake, which is
unusually green in colour and is surrounded by magnificent High Tatras peaks.
Day 5: We will visit the mountain chalet Zbojnicka Chata
(Robber’s Chalet; altitude 1960m), built in the Velka Studena Dolina (Great Cold Valley)
and surrounded by rocky peaks. The chalet was devastated by an extensive fire and its
reconstruction was completed in the year 2000. The chalet provides its services during
all seasons and supplies have to be carried up to it on the shoulders of sherpas.
Day 6: We will visit the city of Poprad, the center of
the region.
Day 7: Teryho Chata (Tery‘s Chalet; altitude 2015m), which we will visit, is the second highest in altitude of all chalets that provide year-round service. It is situated in a Small Cold Valley and surrounded by the five Spisske Plesa glacial lakes.
Day 8: We will go to the Velicka Dolina (Velicka Valley), where we will see Velicke Pleso (Velicke Lake) with the mountain hotel Sliezsky Dom (Silesian House; altitude 1670m) on its bank. Sliezsky Dom is the largest hotel in the alpine environment in Slovakia.
Day 9: From the village of Tatranska kotlina we will hike up to the beautiful wooden chalet Chata Plesnivec. From there, stunning views of the white limestone cliffs of the Belianske Tatras leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
Day 10: Farewell and departure from Slovakia.
