Hut to hut self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hello Barbara,

We enjoyed an incredible experience on the hut to hut tour. The accommodations were good (the final place was outstanding!) the food was delicious, the trails challenging and easy to understand. The bus and train instructions were reassuring as we headed out and returned. Roman met with us the night before. He may want to always show clients a photo of the trail head for when they get off the bus to start the hike. We asked and he had one, and it was helpful the next day.
The Atrium guesthouse had originally put us in a room where the beds are in a loft. The temperature was excessive. When we expressed a concern, they moved us to a cooler room. When we returned, the room was good. We had to leave at 4am for a 5am train (we walked to the train station) and they had prepared a bag breakfast for our journey. A very thoughtful touch. :)

Thanks for your help on our adventure... we could not have done it without you. If you would like a review for your website, please let me know where I can do that.

Warm regards,

Hut to hut for advanced self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hi Barbora,

Thanks for your email. We loved it and we wish we could have stayed longer and explored more of the High Tatras! There was a bit more snow in some places than we expected and it would have been nice to have our ice axes just in case, but other than that it was great!

Best wishes,

Hut to hut self guided tour in the High Tatras

Dear Barbora,

we enjoyed the tour very much; it was challenging (also because of the heat at lower elevations) but wonderful. Thank you very much for all your support and for handling the logistical details.

We arrived back in Poprad on schedule, on Sunday, 30 June by train from Strbske Pleso. Here are a couple of feedback points.

(1) The Atrium guest house is a good departure point; the staff are very forthcoming and we left our car there for the duration of the trek without a problem.

(2) We met with Roman as arranged and had a good talk with him about the individual portions of the trek. Here, we´d have a remark: it would be helpful if guides like Roman can communicate to you that portions of the trek may still be under the snow so you can let your clients know beforehand, before the arrival in Poprad. I did google snow and trek conditions before we departed, but could not find anything useful - having some first-hand information from experienced guides a couple of days before the start is helpful in order to bring the appropriate gear along or rent it on time. Otherwise, Roman explained everything very well.

(3) The huts were all in good condition; we found the Zelene Pleso hut the most comfortable one. The Zamkovsky hut is located in the middle of the woods and some good anti-flies spray is highly recommended! The FIS hotel in Strbske Pleso was good as well, and well located for the remaining tour.

(4) From Zamkovsky hut, we decided to take the route up via Teryho hut and the Priecne sedlo: the ascent via chains from the Teryho hut up to the saddle was good, the chains are well maintained and the rock was solid, without snow coverage. However, the descent on the other side, towards Zbojnicka hut is not in good condition: chains are completely missing, it appears as if a land-slide has ripped them off. It is high recommended to have poles as the scree is quite loose and the rock unstable, although there was no snow anymore. Maybe it would be useful to share this info also with Roman.

(5) From Zbojnicka hut, we descended to Vysoke Tatry and took the train to Strbske Pleso. The visibility at the hut was poor and up towards the sedlo Prielom even worse, with very strong winds. Given what Roman told us about the snow conditions at the saddles and the fact that the previous day was long and strenuous, we decided to descent.

(6) From Strbske Pleso, we decided to ascent Rysy, not Krivan, although the approach was longer from that side than it would have been from Popradske Pleso hut. It was a great top, but a very long day with very many people on the top itself and on the path. There was some snow past the Rysy hut, but nothing major.

All in all, we had great days in the mountains! Thank you again for your support and have a great week!

Best regards,

Hut to hut self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hello Barbora, thank you for your follow up.

We had a wonderful time! The High Tatras are spectacular and we hope to be back and hike to parts we did not see.

Cecile has already put an excellent review for TravelSlovakia on TripAdvisor but here are a few specific ideas.

Good lodging and hikes the first two days.
Hike day 3 we went from Zamkovskiho via Tehry chata and the “chain wall” pass down to Bilikova. Fantastic hike but long day!
Our last two nights at Popradski pleso were mixed. It is a beautiful location but the hotel has problems. Plumbing issues and terrible food, we learned that the best approach was to avoid what they had cooked and eat at the other chata when possible.
Great day tour to the castle with Lucia.

We’ll definitely call you again and recommend you! You did a great job for us, thank you.

Hut to hut for advanced self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hi Barbora

Yes back home safe and sound thanks. We really enjoyed our trek in the Tatras. I thought the hotel in Poprad was great and the route through the mountains well planned.
We are experienced mountaineers and really enjoyed the difficult sections over the saddles on days 4 and 5 but we were quite surprised how challenging they were because the route description doesnt give much detail. I think some walkers might find them quite scary and should be forewarned.
Otherwise the trip was very good value and we had a great time.

Thanks for your help

From Hut to Hut Trekking Self-guided Tour in High Tatras

Good afternoon, Yes we’re safe home and unfortunately back in work! Yes the tour was great and I’d recommend it to people. I think it was good value, all of the huts were expecting us and the map and meeting the guide was useful. The high Tatras are also very beautiful. The only issue we had was in Poprad the hotel not realising we were half-board and being unable to explain it because the employee who was on shift was unable to speak English. However, we were impressed with how quickly you dealt with it and it was quickly solved.

Hut to hut self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hello Barbora

Thank you for your mail. The hiking tour was great, we enjoyed it. We did skip the last hike day (to the top of Rysy-mountain) though due to knee problems of my husband. We just slowly made our way back tot Poprad. But other than that; great experience. Also well organised. Only one remark: it wouldn't be a bad idea to let hikers know that huts serve their meals (if you booked half pension) at a certain hour for example on the vouchers. We are not accustomed to this. And apparantly the first two huts as well as the Atrium Pension make it a point to be there on time for supper.

Again, thank you for the organisation.

Hut to hut advanced self guided tour in the High Tatras

Hi Barbora,

We enjoyed very much the tour, and we experienced no problems. On the contrary everything worked perfect!
At the Prielom and Priecne saddles we were a bit challenged and surprised about the technical level, and would have appreaciated if it had been described a bit more in detail what we could expect. But as I say we enjoyed it very much :-)

All in all we were very satisfied, and will for sure recommend your company for our friends.

Best wishes,

Tatra National Park Grand Tour Self Guided

Hi Barbora

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the High Tatras Grand Tour.

Although we had problems with the Gopass card on the day we visited Lomnica Peak, you did resolve the issue for us with enough time for us to get our booking to the Peak, so, although it was a worrying time, you sorted it for us, so thank you! The Peak was amazing, a good addition to the holiday!

Overall we thought the tour was very good, the 2 Grand Hotels were both amazing - great locations, staff, food and rooms and the Welcome Spa was very welcome after a day's walking!

The walks you suggested in the itinerary were nicely varied, with different degrees of difficulty and different views every day. We did make some changes to the walks suggested, to make them circular, longer or shorter.

The brief from the guide was short but useful. However he could have suggested we start the walks early to avoid the crowds, we learnt on day one.

The only real issue we had was the taxi transfer from Krakow airport. The driver was waiting for us with a sign with my name, which was very good, however we considered his driving to be dangerous, he drove far too fast and too close to the vehicles in front, and was texting on his phone while he drove. A few times over the week I wanted to phone you to ask for another driver for our return trip to Krakow, but my husband told me it was rude! However, the driver for the return trip was excellent, apart from being late as he went to the hotel in Stary Smokovec to pick us up.

So overall my only suggestions for the week would be to not use the first driver, to make sure the drivers know which hotel to collect us from and to make sure the Gopass tickets are valid for the Lomnica Peak.

Many thanks

From Hut to Hut Trekking Self-guided Tour in High Tatras

Dear Barbora,

Thank you for your e-mail. We made it back home.

Thank you so much for all the great organisation, we really had an amazing trip!

The hut at the blue lake was, though beautiful, not our favourite. It was insanely busy and we did not sleep much in the shared dorm.

However, the other huts were really nice and the people were very lovely.

Again, thank you so much Barbora, we would 100% recommend Travel Slovakia to our friends!

Tatra Mountain Holiday self guided tour

Dear Lucia
First of all we were very glad to visit the Tatra mountains - really a beautyful area.
We are very satisfied with your planning and communication - easy and fast.
The introduction in Poprad were clear and good. We got informations about the most difficult trails, places were we could bye water and food, and spots were we could look for animals.
After three days walk I got a stomach upset, and we cancelled the hike from Sliezsky dom to Strbske Pleso, and went by train. Easy and a good experience.
We had to ask for towel in the huts. Perhaps we should have brought some :-)
For me, the trail was hard, and it would have been really nice with a break om day 3 (two nights on same spot). Like the last day, we could have chosen to rest, to take a small or a long day trip - without our backpacks.
On the last day in Poprad we met another danish couple. The also have found your company - by searching on the internet. We don´t have a danish company doing what you are doing. Just for information :-)
We saw marmot, chamois and golden eagle and a lot of interesting plants :-)

From Hut to Hut Trekking Self-guided Tour in High Tatras

Hello,

We are still in Poland. Leave on Saturday. We had a great time hiking the High Tatras. It was absolutely beautiful and would love to do it again. The huts were perfect and the food delicious. Everyone was very kind. The information you gave us about the alternate route came in very useful as we had some bad weather. But hiking out and in again was lovely. We had a great time. Thanks for everything!

Thank you.

Hut to hut self-guided trekking tour in the High Tatras for advanced

Good morning Barbora.

Thank you for your mail

The trip went very well with no problems at all . Everything from the airport transfer on went exactly as planned. The huts were fantastic and the mountain trails were stunning. I am already looking forward to going back to Slovakia.

As for the day to day walks I have to say that there was a good blend of hard days and easy days. The mountain trails were very well marked and maintained and , on the trips we did , they were not very busy with people so you really got a feeling of the open country.

My only regret is that I did not get a chance to go to Bratislava , but maybe next time !

Thank you and your team for a wonderful trip and I would not hesitate to recommend your company ( and I already have ) to anyone.

If any trips come up that you think I may be interested in please let me know.

Thanks again

Hut to hut self-guided trekking tour in the High Tatras for advanced

Hi Barbora and Lenka,

We returned as planned yesterday. I thought I'd just share our experience with you. I hope you'll find it useful.

First off, the entire trip has been very smooth, from the information given before the trip, tre transportation to and from the airport, the meeting with Roman and the reservations at the huts. Everything has been very smooth. Great job on that! The mountains were amazing. Great hikes, great views and some really interesting passages.
The huts were for the most part great for both lunch and overnight stays.
All in all, we were enjoyed our vacation and I for one would love to return one day. I'll also recommend this kind of vacation and your services to friends.
The weather were overal great. We had summer warmth the first days and winter snow the last few days. It worked out quite well, although we had to change our route on the 4th day, due to very poor conditions on the first top.

We also have a few points that we believe could be improved slightly. Some may be things you can actually change while other may be beyond your reach, but I'll list them just the same.
- The times specified on the plans for the individual days seems to have been in the higher end of the scale. For the most time we managed to get to the huts well before the specified time. It may have been more helpful to just specifcy the hiking time as was listed on the actual maps.
- Based on the above, some more input on optional things to do, would have been welcome input. We went off track a few days to spend some more time seeing things in the mountains and we found that we had plenty of time for that.
- On the description of the hikes for each day, it was only listed once that there were chains along the track. While Roman did mention it, it would've been handy to be able to tell from the description on which days and where on the route the chains were.
- The Horsky Hotel wasn't very impressive or cosy to stay at compared to the other huts we tried. The food and service were worse, and the sanitary conditions were pretty poor. The common areas wasn't very clean either. The location was great though.

Best regards,

Hut to hut self-guided trekking tour in the High Tatras

Hello Barbora,

We had a great time, thank you very much! The weather was variable, but that made it all the more interesting.

In terms of things you control or influence;

a) We though the Atrium hotel in Poprad was clean and comfortable, with good food. But we all felt that the staff could have been more welcoming. It is possible that future visitors might prefer a more welcoming place especially if closer to the railway station, even if it cost a little more.

b) your local guide/expert on the mountains turned up on time and was very nice and helpful - please give our thanks to him.

c) all the huts were good from a facilities point of view

d) the trails were well-marked.

e) your trip notes are good and helpful but two comments here;

1) my three colleagues walked up Rysy on the final day (in semi-winter conditions) and found that it was possible and safe providing good footwear with spikes or crampons are used (they were able to purchase these from the Rysy hut). So this could be an update to your trip notes.
2) another update to your notes - although the distances are not challenging, and the up / down gradients are ok, the walking is quite tough because of the long stretches of broken rock that you have to walk along (or leap from one to the other!). This makes it quite hard physically, and quite different from trail walks in other mountains. Might be something to advise people on?

Many thanks for all your help and we would definitely recommend the High Tatras to other walkers and your company in particular.

Regards,

Hello Lucia!

The trip was amazing; we had good weather 3/4 days, the views were beautiful and the accommodations were mostly comfortable. It was a great experience. Was very impressed with the trails, as they were well marked. Roman did a good job explaining everything as well. I would definitely recommend Travel Slovakia to others in the future.

Customized Hut to Hut Trekking in High Tatras

Lucia,

the trip was great !

The briefing at the beginning was done perfectly, clear and handling all necessary infos. Accommodation in the huts was as expected, no problem. Horsky hotel Sliezsky was a good surprised in the middle of the trek. I was afraid for transport from Poprad to the mountain, but for no reason as it was easy. Day walk duration was good for our child.

For your information, I gave your contact to colleagues interested in walking in the Tatras.
